Custom Canvas Projects in the Oil Industry

Lee C Moore is a manufacturing company located in Tulsa, with manufacturing and assembly facilities at the Port of Catoosa. Specifically, their manufacturing focus is on the drilling industry. And at Oklahoma Custom Canvas, we provide custom canvas products for their oil rigs.

We do oil rig wind wall covers. Basically, these wind wall covers are installed out in the middle of the ocean on the derricks to provide wind protection for the individuals who work within. There are usually four covers per set, and we do a few different sizes. So one set size is about 13 and a half or 14 feet wide by 40 feet to 42 feet long. And then another set is 24 feet wide by 45 feet long.

They all have a heavy duty webbing and buckles to help attach in specific locations to help work around the structure itself.

Out in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico, you have all sorts of wind, you have hurricanes, you have, you know, all sorts of crazy weather. Whether they’re up during hurricanes or not, I have no idea. But I would assume that once they’re up there for a while. I can’t imagine them trying to take them down and put them up on a consistent basis. But I would expect them to stay up once they’re up.

The material we use for those are an 18 ounce and a 22 ounce vinyl. It is a poly treated type material. So it will be water repellent, so to speak, not waterproof. And saltwater, you know, shouldn’t affect it too much, although the saltwater is a harsher element. And we do replace those for certain rigs occasionally, although whether that’s due to sunlight or water, it’s hard to say.
